Sungenia Partners a Second Time with MLA General Contractor, Inc. to Install Solar Battery Storage for the Gary Sinise Foundation RISE Program for Veteran Staff Sergeant Dennet Oregon

Sungenia just wrapped up a second project with the Gary Sinise Foundation, which presented Staff Sergeant Dennet Oregon and his family with a brand new mortgage-free smart home built specifically for Dennet’s needs.
Team Sungenia worked on the solar panel system for this fantastic custom home, providing clean, renewable energy and long-term savings. But that’s not all—Dennet Oregon and the Oregon Family also have battery backup and load-shedding capabilities, ensuring their home stays powered even during outages. Their system already proved its value, keeping the lights on during the recent fires and blackouts, giving their family peace of mind and energy independence. Congratulations to the Oregon Family on a smart, resilient, and sustainable energy solution!
Dennet Oregon, a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant (E-6), was severely injured by an IED in Afghanistan in 2005. After the incident, he was sent to Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, where he received treatment for 18 months. In 2006, he was transferred to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for bilateral below-the-knee amputations. By 2008, Dennet was cleared to return to duty and was assigned to the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization at the Pentagon. In 2012, he completed his medical board and retired from the military. Today, he resides in Derwood, MD, with his wife and two children. The Gary Sinise Foundation (GSF) chose to build him a home near Walter Reed, allowing him to stay close to the medical care he needs, live mortgage-free, and create lasting memories with his family.

Dennet Oregon
“An important life lesson I’ve learned is that life is about love and family.”
The Gary Sinise Foundation shared:
“…we are proud to dedicate a mortgage-free, specially adapted smart home to U.S. Army Veteran Dennet Oregon. At just 19, inspired by the events of 9/11, Dennet joined the military and served in Afghanistan before suffering life-altering injuries from an IED explosion.
After enduring 18 months of intense treatment, he lost both legs below the knee but remained dedicated to serving his country. Now, Dennet and his family will have a home built for his needs, allowing them to live comfortably and focus on building new memories together.
We are truly honored to provide this home for Dennet, a testament to his service, resilience, and the incredible strength of his family. It’s our privilege to support him in this next chapter of life.
“’Since I left Walter Reed Hospital, everywhere I’ve lived I haven’t been able to use my wheelchair,” said Dennet. “I’ve had to put it in storage. I’m going to actually use my wheelchair here. That alone is going to make a huge difference.'”
