Help Save Rooftop Solar in California!
California should continue being a solar leader and continue its progress toward clean energy goals. As renewable energy grows in popularity so does concern for its monopolization and cost. According to SaveCaliforniaSolar.org, the current net energy metering has been aiding California’s residential consumers to go solar and should be allowed to continue. Over 65 percent of voters in California support solar energy and want to keep solar power growing throughout the state. Meanwhile, nearly 70 percent of California voters oppose the new changes to solar proposed by utility companies and lobbyists in their new bill.
The new Assembly Bill 1139 was introduced that wants to move to Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0 which is incredibly detrimental to the residential consumer and rooftop solar. It would make NEM much more expensive for consumers and make it more difficult to go solar. This would also add more solar fees, change incentives, and create IOU proposals that could decrease monthly solar credits. Allowing this bill to move forward could help utilities and lobbyists monopolize solar and take away benefits from the public.
Why is California rooftop solar important? It is a clean, renewable energy source that provides electrical power and jobs in the solar industry. Nearly two million consumers, such as businesses, schools, and residences, and over 150,000 homes have gone solar in the past few years and have benefited from current solar incentives. Solar is a great investment in one’s property, local job growth, and local economy because every part of solar from construction to installation to upkeep helps the local community.
